Preparation
For the vast majority of blood tests, no preparation is necessary. The purpose of these examinations is to determine the normal composition of your blood.Certain blood tests require that you abstain from eating (fast) for a specified period of time prior to the test. This typically involves abstaining from food and liquids after midnight prior to the examination. Frequently, these examinations are planned to commence very early in the morning.
How we do it
A phlebotomist will draw a blood sample from you using a catheter so that your blood can be analyzed. Inform the technician if injections elicit anxiety in you. She or he is capable of reducing your anxiety. The sample is typically drawn from a vein in the arm.
Probable request: Form a fist. Your arm will be secured with an elastic band by the technician. The technician will cleanse the area after locating the vein before inserting the catheter. You may experience a minor twinge. After collecting sufficient blood, the technician will remove the syringe and cover the site with an adhesive bandage. A firm pressure may be required at the site in an effort to staunch any hemorrhaging.
